Glossary:

  • Stickers: Each cubie has 6 faces each one is named 'sticker'
  • Faces Also the Rubik's has 6 faces each one has 9 cubies and 9 stickers.
  • Layers  U  E  D  are called layers: D = Layer 1; E = Layer 2; U = Layer 3
  • Colors: Sticker can be Red - Orange - Yellow White - Green - Blue
    (Red - Orange) - (Yellow - White) - (Green - Blue) on opposite faces
  • Algorithm: sequence of rotation to obtain specific results
  • Sexy move: most used algorithm. Best suited for speedycubing
  • Sledgehammer: Sexy Move's little brother. Best suited for teaching

The standard orientation is the one having:

  • The red on the right.
  • The yellow on top..
  • The blue on front.


Matching moves with colours isn't the standard, but makes life easier if:

The red on the right. - The yellow on top. - The blue on front.

As a result:

  • The X-axis goes from the left to the right face.
  • The Y-axis goes from the up to the down face.
  • The Z-axis goes from the back to the front face.
